English Shadowing Practice by Level

Choose shadowing exercises for your CEFR level, from A1 for beginners to C2 for advanced learners, matched to English you can already mostly understand.

The fastest way to stall is to shadow material far above your level — you get stuck decoding words and never build fluency. Shadowing works best when you already understand most of a sentence, so your attention goes to pronunciation and rhythm instead of translation.

Choose your CEFR level from A1 for beginners up to C2 for advanced learners. Each level gives you audio you can follow comfortably, so you can repeat aloud smoothly and step up gradually as the easier lessons start to feel effortless.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my English level?

A quick rule: if you understand about 80–90% of a clip on the first listen, it's the right level to shadow. Struggling with most words means drop a level; finding it too easy means step up.

Which CEFR level should I start shadowing at?

Match the level where you already understand most of what you hear — usually A1–A2 if you're new to English, and B1–B2 once you can follow everyday speech. When a level feels effortless, move up one.

Should I always practise at my exact level?

Mostly, but it helps to mix in slightly easier lessons for fluency and confidence, and occasionally a harder one to stretch your listening.
